CASE 03/ONLIA

Building trust in a new kind of insurance company

The context

Onlia entered the Canadian market with a different proposition for home and auto insurance: a digital-first experience built around simplicity, transparency and prevention.

Backed by Achmea, an established international insurer, the company had significant industry expertise behind it. But as a new consumer brand operating at the intersection of insurance, technology and mobility, Onlia also had to establish credibility of its own.

The challenge

Onlia wanted to be known for more than selling insurance online. Its model created an opportunity to connect safer behaviour with better outcomes for drivers and insurers alike.

Doing that credibly required more than a marketing campaign. The company needed a clear point of view, an evidence base to support it, and a consistent way to communicate across content, media and public-facing opportunities.

SALT’s thought leadership and in-depth knowledge have brought a unique, strategic lens to our brand positioning, marketing and communications activities and helped define our stakeholder engagement and partnerships strategy.

SALT's role

SALT developed an evidence-based communications and content strategy centred on road safety, prevention and behaviour change.

We translated research into accessible content, helped shape Onlia's thought-leadership voice, and developed messaging that connected digital tools, safer driving habits and insurance rewards without losing the consumer story.

SALT also led public-facing media efforts and represented Onlia in the Toronto Star, CTV, Global and CP24, as well as at the Toronto Auto Show and Collision Conference.

What changed

The work gave Onlia a clearer territory to own in the market: not simply digital insurance, but a more preventative approach to the relationship between insurers and their customers.

Across its content, media presence and industry conversations, Onlia was able to connect its technology and insurance products to a broader, evidence-based story about road safety and behaviour change.

SALT helped establish the company as a credible voice across insurance, fintech and mobility while it built recognition in the Canadian market.
